We’re in the middle of a month of back-to-back house guests. Family and friends who are taking advantage of the beautiful weather here in Arizona, before we ascend into 3 months of triple digit temperatures!
What I notice the most about hosting our guests, is how content I am to do very little! I am okay with conversation, sitting outside in the shade, eating good food, watching television and taking naps! Oh yes… NAPS! Pure joy these days!
Our first guests were quite a bit younger than me. They googled things to do, explored, took off on mini adventures. I began to wonder about the ‘me’ who used to do the same thing. The me who wanted to see what the city offered, explored the sites and experienced the local attractions! Where did that version of me go? Am I simply old and boring now? Was I missing out on something?
The answer is a resounding NO!
I love the ease of life. I love being in my own space. I cherish our routines. So, to someone else it may appear boring. To me it feels satisfying! I guess this is a slight build off of my last post about feeling blessed and having an amazing life. I am not searching for anything to make it right, or better, or enough. It is already those things.
I remember a time when I was searching for happiness outside of myself. When I thought how I dressed, what I drove, where I traveled to, or some ‘thing’ I purchased was going to complete me.
I don’t regret any of those things, they are just not as motivating as they once were. In fact when Fito and I talk about planning a trip or adventure, the destination is only a small part of it. We are crafting a shared experience of a new place or even visiting a place that has already made a heart connection with us. Maine and Mexico both come to mind. It is not about where, it is about who and what. It is where we will create new memories and deepen our own connection to one another.
Every once in a while, I wonder if letting go of the energies of exploring diminishes my motivation. The truth is – I don’t think it does. Instead of the search for something new to inspire or propel life forward; being content and loving the life that I already have stimulates a desire for more. More of what I already have.
So a month worth of visits from loved ones is another great reminder that ‘Life is good!’
How about you? Where are you in your journey to being content? Are you looking for something new? Maybe one last piece of the puzzle? Ready to throw it all up in the air and start fresh? Or something in between? Just remember when you find it, it’s okay to simply relax into it… Like a comfortable old pair of slippers! Ahhhh yes… Life is good!

so true, so true… I have the same experiences when visitors arrive in Arizona to see “me?!” suddenly, life is a whirlwind and driving to & fro to the great “must see” places and the excitement is tangible… then, when everyone is gone, I faint with exhaustion… back to my “boring” life… Darla
Now you’re singing my song Darla… Although I didn’t do any running around. I watched from a rocking chair in the shade!
I share the same feelings about guests and settling back into my routines. I love my ” boring” life. It took me a long time to get here, and even longer to come to the realization that it is OK to be happy with CALM.
Right!?! It is like so many situations or stories in our lives… It’s hard to recognize without looking at the situation from a distance or updating the story! Thanks for your support Ronnie!
Beautiful Charles…the kingdom of heaven is within.

I love the comfort of my couch as well, this weekend I took a comfy seat at the top of the Spur Crossing trail the view I was rewarded with was awe inspiring, the company was incredible as we walked through 3 temperate zones I took beautiful pictures of wild flowers, Cactus in bloom and picked up beautiful minerals to examine only to release them so they can spread themselves over the land to feed the plants that feed the animals. I love my life and give gratitude every day because every day is a new adventure and learning experiences.
Wow Ray! Sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing and for creating a visual image of your weekend!
So true Charles ! Being in the moment and enjoying what it has to offer.
Thanks Karolyn!
