“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
~Mahatma Gandhi, Lawyer, politician, activist and writer
How are you feeling this week? It’s been another roller coaster ride of deep emotions for me. So much has been happening all around the world. First, a Pandemic then, 3 pivotal black lives killed triggering a peace movement, violence and looting. In addition, we’ve experienced a Lunar eclipse and a Strawberry full moon. Through these events I’ve seen how connected we are to one another throughout the world and seen long buried feelings of discrimination, inequality, and hatred come into the light of day once again. People have gathered in groups to demand change due to police brutality, inequality, and systems that are broken. I’ve also seen sparks of hope, courage, compassion, and a willingness to change during the chaos.

For a moment I wondered if the significance of the Strawberry Moon was important. Considering so much chaos swirling I felt comforted that these lunar energies were supportive of self care, creating space to change our  lives as well as a time for us to step back and regroup. This is exactly where we are. Right now I hear singer, songwriter, peace activist, John Lennon’s words, “ . . . Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one. I hope some day you’ll join us and the world will be as one.” What kind of world do you imagine? We are all equal and no one is less or more than another truly. Unfortunately power over people has prevailed for too many years.

It’s time to change and the place it begins is within each one of us. We must look within ourselves at what we value, believe, and practice. What biases do we hold and what inequality do we support even through our silence? We must be willing to change ourselves and have the courage to take the steps to do it. The way the change will happen is when we are honest with ourselves and ask, “What in me am I willing to change? How will it affect my self image and am I ok with it?” Use the lens of love. Seek to understand. Forgive rather than judge yourself as well as others.

How you implement the changes you’re willing to make will depend on you. Some are peacefully protesting. Others find different ways to have their voices heard through writing or personal contacts. And still others will use their imaginations and creatively express themselves in different ways. There isn’t just one way. There is momentum and it feels like we’re at a turning point. So much that is broken is now coming into the light.

J.K. Rowling, author, screenwriter, producer, and philanthropist says, “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better.” Let’s embrace the truth of who we are at our essence – LOVE. We have an opportunity to make this a better place for everyone. It’s time to let go of divisive behavior, hatred, inequality, and violence. We are all a part of the whole and together can make a difference. It begins, first, within ourselves. What are you willing to change?
