Rumi reminds us that change begins within each one of us before change outside of us happens. I’ve been thinking about change and transitions with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. I realize that life is a story of transitions always moving from one thing to another. Life is dynamic and never static even during the times we may feel stuck! How often have you experienced transitions in your life? Think about how you’ve changed while growing up from childhood to adulthood; your academic and professional experiences; relationships and beliefs. I know that there have been significant transitions in my life as I reflect and look back.
The full moon visible on September 10th is another symbol of change. This moon is known as the Harvest Moon since it is the closest to the Autumnal Equinox this year. It represents a time when farmers know when the harvest season begins. For the spiritually minded it represents igniting hopes, dreams, living more consciously, and thinking out of the box. Its energy also offers an opportunity to embrace new possibilities! It’s an invitation to ask without limiting a response, “What’s possible? What am I willing to change in me?” The Greek philosopher, Socrates, has said “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
How often does resistance play a part when we’re faced with stepping into new situations? I find that the more aware of my response and resistance to changing then I can choose to let it go. I can choose to change and create something new for myself once my inner resistance or fear is released. Sometimes I feel like I’m my own worst enemy, so to speak. I know myself well enough and know that I don’t like being told what to do, think, or believe. I have to work things out for myself! I am open to feedback and collaboration though. Does this happen to you? I recognize that my inner world and life story is ever changing!
Through the years I’ve made life changes that include creating new priorities and experiences. I’m choosing to become more kind, compassionate, loving, understanding, inclusive, accepting, aware, forgiving, and so much more. Until I choose to change nothing around me will. The American abolitionist and social activist, Harriet Tubman, has said “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Dream big! Realize that you are more than you believe you are! Ignite the spark of hope, joy, and wonder within you! Let your imagination come out and play! All is possible when we are open and willing to change! I continue to change myself building on my strengths and letting go of my perceived limitations. How about you?
Take it easy this week. Listen to your body and rest if needed. Enjoy the time you create to explore your inner world! I’m sending you lots of love!
