Have you danced and celebrated life this week? If not, why not? Many of you are probably wondering why I’m asking, right? Well . . . I’ve heard several things this week that have offered me an opportunity to look at what I believe. For example, I’ve heard that Mercury is in retrograde again. Ok, for many this can mean something negative and that there might be lots of challenges during this time.

For me, I’ve been told I was born during a Mercury retrograde so I don’t experience it the same way. And yet, I wonder if our experience during this time is really about what we believe! By the way, this retrograde is February 17th through March 10th. There will also be two more this year. One in June and another in October. So, if you believe that “bad” or “challenging” things happen during Mercury retrograde then you may not have felt like dancing or celebrating! What happens if you change what you believe?

Another situation that you might relate to is that you, a friend or a family member have recently experienced or are experiencing health issues. I know of several friends and acquaintances who have been ill with the flu, other health issues or they have loved ones who are suffering with dementia or Alzheimers. All of these situations can be very stressful and exhausting. Days are spent caring for others or self and the energy to dance and celebrate is non-existent, right? Thoughts are more focused on how to “fix” and heal things and often we find it hard to move out of that energy. It can become all consuming.

Once we realize that sometimes we have to let the illness run its course or accept what is ours to do for others and we can’t “fix” it for them. Acceptance and showing up in ways that are supportive are key. Caregivers often lose sight of their own health so it’s important to rest, prioritize and take care of yourself so you can show up for others and still remain healthy.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t take time to dance and celebrate during these stressful times. Use your imagination during your quiet time or find an open space in your home, turn on your favorite music then dance! OSHO, a controversial new religious movement leader and mystic from India, has said, “Be the celebrators, celebrate! Already there is too much – the flowers have bloomed, the birds are singing, the sun is there in the sky – celebrate it! You are breathing and you are alive and you have consciousness, celebrate it!”

After a recent intense time of supporting a dear loved one during an illness OSHO’s words have been a wonderful reminder for me. Every day I give thanks for being here another day. I give thanks for sharing the day with my family and friends. I give thanks for the beauty around me. I give thanks for my health, mobility, life and I celebrate! How about you? Are you dancing and celebrating life enough? OSHO reminds us to, “Dance madly as if all of life is meant for dancing and celebrating.”
