“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman, American abolitionist and activist
Are you ready to embrace a new year and opportunity to dream? What dreams do you have for 2022? What are you willing to change in your life so that they can become more real? I agree with Harriet Tubman. Within each one of us is the power to create change but first we must change ourselves! Dreams can be delayed and set aside due to a variety of reasons; however, it’s never too late to dust them off of the shelf and see if they are still relevant. Perhaps it’s time to tweak them or create new ones. 2022 offers each one of us an opportunity to begin anew. Think of it like writing a book. We have 365 blank pages to use! How cool is that? As the author you create the story – beginning, middle, and end!
The story that I’m creating includes more hope, peace, love, acceptance, health, acceptance, beauty, inclusion, and so much more. Now, I’m visiting my inner monastery during my reflective and introspective times to see what’s in me that will have to change. Then, I ask, “Am I willing to change it?” Sometimes the answer is yes and sometimes it’s no! As I do this exploration I remember what Judy Garland, American actress and singer has said, “. . . We have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, a little more loving, and have a little more empathy, and maybe next year at this time we’d like each other a little more.”
What if we choose to look at how our differences complement our dreams rather than divide them? What if we seek to understand one another more rather than make assumptions? What if we choose to hope and have faith that things are and will continue to change for the better rather than feel there’s no hope for things to change? What if we acknowledge our blessings and what we are grateful for rather than focus on what we don’t have? What if we reclaim and accept that we are powerful dreamers and creators and we can change our circumstances rather than feel helpless? What if we stop waiting for someone else to make things better rather than making them better ourselves? Let’s dream and write the stories we want in 2022! Our own resistance and fear is what will stop us!
I’m excited and hopeful as 2022 begins. You may remember Dr. Seuss, American children’s author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator and filmmaker. He said, “You’ll never get bored when you try something new. There’s no limit to what you can do.” What is the first chapter of your new book and what will be the first words you will write? Remember, “there’s no limit to what you can do.” I’m sending lots of love and wishing you a Happy New Year!!
