“Laughter is the sound of the soul dancing.”  Jarod Kintz, Author

With all of the craziness and drama that’s going on in our country right now I realized that I can either enter the drama or not. So I’m choosing not!! Laughter and it’s impact on healing as well as singing and dancing to feel happy have emerged front and center for me this week. Does this sound weird? As I write this newsletter I hear Pharrell Williams singing his “Happy” song and imagine my soul dancing as I smile and feel good! So much better than joining in drama that I have no control over. How I respond to it is what I can control!

Don’t get me wrong. I realize there are serious things going on right now with significant impact and consequences for our country and each one of us. What I realize is that it’s important, more than ever, to focus on the choices I make and how I respond to choices made by others. I continue to remember who I am in my core and that is LOVE. I intend to become more loving, kind,  and compassionate for me and others.

Do you know who Ziggy Marley is? I love his father, Bob Marley’s, music. I saw Ziggy interviewed recently and learned that he’s also an amazing Jamaican musician and philanthropist. The lyrics of his song “Love is the Only Law” really resonated because I believe Love is the greatest transformer of all. Ziggy sings, “We only live to learn to love and no lesson is greater. Make it your gain, suffer no shame.” I believe we are here to remember!

Imagine being filled with so much joy while listening to music that you laugh, sing along, and dance! When you feel like you’re going down the rabbit hole or being sucked into the drama going on all around you – imagine the “Happy” song or any other song that makes your soul feel like dancing! Laugh, sing, and dance! This is one of many responses we can choose to help us re-balance and center.

Does this mean we’re less spiritual? Absolutely not! I feel it’s an honoring of who we are at our core beyond what we’ve been taught to believe by others. We are spiritual and human! We are more than our careers, academic achievements, political affiliation, religious affiliation, or what others want us to be! We are part of the whole and not separate. Our spiritual journey of awakening is to also remember who we are not! We are so much more than we think we are and although, at times, it seems like we journey by ourself. Truly, we are never alone!

Brene Brown, American professor, lecturer, and author reminds us that, “Laughter, song, and dance create emotional and spiritual connection; they remind us of the one thing that truly matters when we are searching for comfort, celebration, inspiration, or healing: We are not alone.” Have you found this to be true for you? Laughter, song, and dance can be wonderful tools to enhance your emotional and spiritual connection to All That Is! These tools can effectively help you to remember that you aren’t alone! Imagine . . .
