Have you felt like howling at the moon or felt more emotional than usual? This week we’ve been experiencing a lot of Lunar influences. The first full moon of 13 in 2020 occurred on Friday, January 10th and it is known as the Wolf Moon. Hmmm. Think about the symbology represented by wolves. Yes, they howl and express themselves vocally. They also are known for their loyalty, hierarchical structure, intelligence, family, and keen senses. Often they can be misrepresented in stories.

Typically the Wolf Moon represents freedom and encouragement to release things that no longer are working for you. It can often indicate spiritual awakening for some people and during this time you might feel more emotional and yearn for more intimacy in your life. Does anything resonate with how you’re feeling? It’s ok. It’s time to trust your instincts and release old stuff without creating new stories about what you’re experiencing. Can you feel yourself observing what’s happening rather than trying to figure out all of the details?

Through the years I’ve found that I’m more sensitive to Lunar energies. I’ve  experienced many opportunities to release old physical and non-physical denser energies. 2020 will continue to present opportunities as well. As I think about wolves and their communities/packs I take a look at mine. I ask, “Are there relationships that have run their course? Do the relationships I choose to continue feed my soul? Do I feel that I can be me and free in these relationships?”

Now is the perfect time to reflect on your relationships and make choices to continue them or not – make your choices consciously. Which are life giving and affirming? Which ones are constricting? Are there any that make you feel like your soul is withering? Using the wolf analogy – are you in the right pack for who you are right now?

Thich Nhat Hanh has said, “Freedom is not given to us by anyone; we have to cultivate it ourselves. It is a daily practice . . . No one can prevent you from being aware of each step you take or each breath in and out.” In other words, freedom is a choice. Which pack fits who you have become and who you are becoming? Are you ready to howl at the moon yet?

Fear of change or feeling like you can’t control things can be a big inhibitor. You don’t have to make these changes by yourself. Call on the pack/community who best supports you. Maybe it’s one person. You aren’t alone. I always thought I loved change and then one day I realized that I only loved it when I believed I was in control of it! LOL

The urge to let go and express your emotions can feel a bit scary especially when you are used to stuffing them for a variety of reasons. It’s time to allow them to move through you and release without getting bogged down in the details of what they are. Call on your inner wolf and howl at the moon! Of course you can do it in the privacy of your home. It doesn’t literally have to be outdoors and under the full moon. Find your safe and happy place to release and howl! Some of you might feel better working with a professional. However you choose to do it please do it. Why? Emotions that haven’t be expressed eventually will catch up with you and possibly create disharmony in your physical body. Yikes!!

During this time be gentle and kind to yourself and others who are releasing and becoming more free. Self care and nurturing are important as well. Maya Angelou has said, “You only are free when you belong no place. You belong every place – no place at all.” It’s up to you to remain in your current community/pack. It’s up to you to choose to release what’s not working or not. This is what you can control – your choice and how you respond to choices made by others. Are you ready to howl at the moon now?
