The meaning of “Life” keeps changing… and in many ways, as it gets simpler, it becomes more complex! How is that for starting a conversation? All of us are personally contemplating some version of “why am I here…” or “what is my purpose”. While we are trying to lock into what feels right for us, everyone around us is doing the same thing!

We interact and share our thoughts and observations… And this creates more information to include in our personal search for our truth. Then, if you are anything like me, in the stillness before you start your day, or in the fleeting moments before you descend into sleep, you get a sense of how close you are to knowing your answer!

When we are young, we move through life grabbing at the bounty that life offers us. We choose experiences, just because we can. Youth has this amazing ability to experience a lifetime as being forever… It is one of the joys of being young. What we don’t realize at the time is all of our explorations and experimentations are seeding our attitudes and beliefs about who we are and what we have come here to do.

Then, something happens. We gather and collect experiences for years, until we have completely covered ourselves in possibility. We are so covered in fact, that many of us don’t know ourselves anymore at all! Mainly because we have also developed the skills and traits of being a chameleon! We can fit in almost anywhere… And our ability to blend in to any group or situation, oftentimes has us compartmentalize our life.

It is a lot of work being all things to all people (trust me, I know this one well!). For many of us we hear a calling from deep within our hearts. A voice that has always been with us, yet refused to compete for attention with the adrenaline fed voice of young adult pursuits! A voice that is now calling us to remember who we truly came here to be!

We begin to sort through all the memories, lessons and experiences. What still resonates? What is aligned with this quiet voice from the heart? And, slowly but surely we begin to let go of all the trappings and coverings of possibilities that we have gathered over our lifetime. Does that old belief still fit? Do I still have the same attitude about that person, place or thing? We begin the journey of finding ourselves anew.

This process is easy… Right? We are simply shedding old suits that no longer fit… Right? Like any good clearing or cleansing process… We discover that there are things that even though we know they are no longer a fit.., we are not ready to release. We will hold on to them for just a little while longer. That dream that died a long time ago, we will keep in a back pocket, just in case it wants to come back to life. That friendship that no longer has a natural flow and ease~we keep feeding it because of its history.

And what of the things that were so important, that no longer stimulate us the way they use to, yet still add comfort, convenience and security to our lives. Money… Fame… Status… Relationships… Accolades… (insert your own), at one time these might have been drivers or motivators for many of us. What happens when these are not enough to motivate us any longer, but they are still part of our lives. When they are no longer the carrots we chase… It changes how we experience them! Now, we have to rearrange them, so that they are in the right place based on our new preferences. Something that is so much easier said, than done!

And yet… This sorting, letting go, embracing, and stepping into… Is what we are doing these days! We are remembering and rediscovering ourselves all over again! We are moving towards living our lives on purpose – as our purpose! We are moving towards Intentional Living.

Isn’t this the perfect time to reflect on what works for you AND what doesn’t? What better time than the present moment to become the YOU, your heart is calling forth? As I was reminded in conversation yesterday, that even when the task at hand seems large or overwhelming… You still eat an elephant (a giant chocolate one!) the same way… One bite at a time!
