I love Winnie the Pooh and friends! So much wisdom shared simply by A.A. Milne through these beloved characters! I feel such joy when Pooh says, “My favorite day.” As I write this newsletter I’m reminded of my morning feeling fully present in this morning. I was aware of how happy I felt as I drank my coffee that was pre-programmed by my husband. I noticed the yummy smell and taste. I also felt happy as I acknowledged that I ‘get’ to be here on Earth another day and I’m healthy; my family and friends are too. I noticed the beauty of flowers blooming in my backyard and I felt happy, grateful, and yes, I even felt lucky! All while I enjoyed my coffee! Ahhh! Do you remember the last time you truly felt happy?

Why was this moment different than others? I felt present! My ‘to do’ list wasn’t running through my thoughts. Worry was absent. I was present in the moment being happy! Roy T. Bennett, Author, reminds us that, “If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.” There are many other spiritual teachers who also remind us about ‘being’ and living fully in the present moment. It is wondrous to experience it! It’s happened before but for some reason I noticed it more consciously this time. 

I wondered, “Where do we find happiness?” Being happy, for me, feels good and there’s a sense of contentment that comes with it at a very deep level. When I hear music like Pharell’s, “Happy” and other uplifting songs I feel like dancing sometimes. They can make me smile and laugh! These feelings are stimulated from outside of me. It’s different than the deep soul level contentment of being happy in the present moment. 

I find that even in chaos and uncertainty I can be happy and so can you! Catherine Pulsifer, Author, reminds us that, “Being happy is something that each of us determines, it is not something that we find outside of ourself, it is within us and our choice.” Does this mean that the feeling will last 24/7? There might be times this is true and times it isn’t. The more we choose to be happy in the present moment, though, the more often it will happen. Think of it like practice and creating new muscle memory, so to speak. Let go of the old beliefs of unworthiness that you might still hold and ask for help to change, transform, and transmute the old energies back to love. Perhaps shift the lens you see your life through to the lens of love! Claim the blessings and the things you have to be grateful for in your life! 

Remember, you are powerful and can choose to shift your reality. Remember, you aren’t alone and how much you are loved!
