“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” Rumi, Persian poet, Islamic scholar and Sufi mystic

What’s your story? How often do you feel warm and gooey about who you are? How often do you find yourself competing with or comparing yourself with someone else? How does it make you feel? Do you feel stuck or are you thriving? Are you unfolding your own myth as Rumi suggests or living someone else’s story? Take a few minutes and reflect on your life. Hindsight is wonderful isn’t it? I’ve looked back on my life and I understand that who I am is a result of choices I’ve made and experiences that I’ve had. Who I am today and becoming more of is also my choice! I don’t know about you but when I look back I don’t recognize me. It seems like a lifetime ago and I suppose it is. I know, now, that I’m unfolding my own myth consciously!

In the past, especially in my professional life, I found that in order to be considered ‘successful’ I had to wear certain clothes and meet others’ expectations. The corporate environment I worked in supported a philosophy that ‘all glory is fleeting and what have you done for me lately!’ Comparing and competing was a way of life. I didn’t think about writing my own story then. I went along with what was viewed as acceptable in order to be viewed as ‘successful’. I began to see and experience things differently when my awakening journey began.

Today I’m different. I accept that we are creators. We are the authors and artists of our lives. Being aware and accepting that we are so much more than our work, degrees, accomplishments, and material acquisitions is a part of our awakening journey. Gaining a deeper understanding of who I am has evolved. It’s been an exciting and unexpected journey of surprise, changing beliefs, and feeling deeper love and acceptance. Chinese philosopher and writer, Lao Tzu, has said, “Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.”

The contrast is amazing. Getting to know, accept, and feel confident with me has helped me realize that the only writer of my story is me. I don’t have to take on the expectations of anyone else unless I want to. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Wanting to please others is so deeply ingrained in so many of us. Well, it took me quite a while to get here. It’s perfect though. How has your journey been? Have you fully embraced that you are the writer of your own story yet? American essayist, philosopher, and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson, has said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Remember how strong you are and the truth of who you are at your core – LOVE!

The energy of the recent lunar eclipse may be further supporting you as you take time for more inner reflection and letting go of old stuff! Take time to be clear about the story you are writing for yourself. Embrace the opportunity as 2022 ends and the energy for 2023 supports more inner reflection and spiritual awakening. Embrace all of who you are and want to become more of! I’m sending you lots of love and want you to know how much I appreciate you!
